Mars in scorpio - The subtle knife

If you’re familiar with Phillip Pullman’s trilogy, His Dark Materials, then you’re probably privy to the Subtle Knife. The Subtle Knife has the ability to cut between dimensions and unveil parallel, but very different realms. Wielding the knife comes at a cost—two fingers as sacrifice marking your responsibility. Whilst cutting between realms, one must not think about someone or something they love. Why love? It is the only thing the knife cannot cut through. The cost of acting from love is the shattering of the knife.

So, why am I comparing Mars in Scorpio to the Subtle Knife? Mars in its domicile (home sign) in Scorpio shares some key characteristics with the knife and the wielder. Let us start with Mars being known to have sharp qualities and Scorpio being deeply penetrative. In order to use the knife and move between otherworldly portals one must act from instinct (Mars) and precision (think of a striking Scorpion). Mars in Scorpio needs an impossible challenge, and its persistence could potentially lead to themes around death and rebirth—literal or figurative. Courage to seek the truth, to peel back the layers around what others are too afraid to see, drives Scorpionic Mars into worlds that will test it’s resourcefulness and strength, and it’s completely up for the challenge.

So what do we do with this powerful combination? First, look to see where Scorpio is in your chart. What house does it rule? Where are you being asked to take a deeper look or to be more strategic with your choices? Who is friend and who is foe? Also, let us not forget about love. If Mars in Scorpio takes you on an intense journey, look to Venus to bring you back to yourself. Buy the flowers, take the bath, and put your favorite love songs on repeat.
