supporting children and teens: a general guide to moon signs
Astrology offers us a map of support in understanding oneself within the universe. On this map we find the moon symbol ☾ which indicates the moon’s sign in the birth chart. The moon represents our emotional make up. When we find our moon placement, we can use this information to better understand how our or others emotional needs are met and nurtured. There are four elements used in astrology: Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. In context to the moon, each elementals represents a universal way in which emotions or navigated.
🜁Air: Needs connection, communication, and to process through the intellect.
🜄Water: Needs space to process, highly sensitive, and has the potential to dwell.
🜃Earth: Needs stability and to be given a sense of safety through solid and predictable routines.
🜂Fire: Needs outlet for strong reactions, are easily excited, and will process emotions quickly.
There are 12 zodiac signs in Western Astrology. Let’s take a deeper look into how each sign might express itself under the moon’s influence. I’ve accompanied paintings of Greek gods to invoke a deeper sense of understanding through imagery.
♈︎Aries: blows up like a match stick and blows out just as quickly. If doesn’t have a healthy outlet for processing emotions, it will implode. It needs to be allowed to be angry to get “over it” but also have boundaries where anger can be expressed safely. It is an assertive sign with its needs. It’s a sign that is very independent but still likes attention.
♉︎Taurus: needs to have physical touch and presence. They enjoy comfort through beauty and luxury. Very sensual sign therefore needs to experience wellbeing through the senses. They can be very attached to mother figure and have a hard time being separated. Regulates in nature and through activities like gardening. They ground through the stability of the earth.
♊︎Gemini: needs to talk through and discuss feelings when having a difficult time. Loves to process through connecting. Is a naturally curious sign and therefore takes comfort through being told stories.
♋︎Cancer: let them cry, tears need to flow so they can let go. Let them take the time they need as they have their own pace for processing emotions. Loves to be wrapped up in a soft blanket or have a bed to lay or hide in.
♌︎Leo: needs attention, needs to be praised, and wants to feel people direct energy towards them. This attention allows them to feel confidence in their creativity. The world revolves around them but not in a self centered way. Dramatic and loves to play. Leo moon’s may also present as shy but this doesn’t detract from their need for attention.
♍︎Virgo: likes to understand how things work through psychological workings. Needs to feel useful. Needs to be given a role where they can be of service as it gives them a sense of accomplishment. Needs to understand structures and how they work within them. This is an insecure moon sign as it can be highly critical of itself and doesn’t respond well to criticism from others. Therefore, it is very important to give their skills praise.
♎︎Libra: needs to feel included and feels very sad about being left out. Wants to be in relationship as that is where it thrives. Very sensitive to conflict happening around them because it makes them very uncomfortable. Surrounding them with physical beauty gives comfort. Libra moon will need to feel there is a sense of fairness in tough situations. A very gentle and friendly moon sign that has the ability to harmonize surroundings whether a place or people.
♏︎Scorpio: needs time to process feelings. Needs to integrate the intensities of their emotions. This feeling of intensity can be too overwhelming to talk about. Needs to explore each subtle layer down to the core. Thrives when others make the effort to establish an intimate connection - one on one. Potential to carry wounding from mother figures.
♐︎Sagittarius: needs to be given freedom to explore. It is positive in nature and therefore wants to move through negative situations quickly. Very excitable and needs to be allowed to exaggerate because they are nourished by the sense of adventure. Let them lead the way into the unknown by way of physical exploration.
♑︎Capricorn: needs to be encouraged to care for self before taking responsibility for other’s feelings. Thrives under structure, schedules, disciplines, and strong boundaries as they make them feel a sense of safety. They present as little adults because they are emotionally mature and resilient. They tend to take on a lot of responsibility so make sure to give them a lot of love. They crave being nurtured and fear displaying emotions.
♒︎Aquarius: needs to understand through using intellect to integrate emotional experiences. This sign is rebellious and needs to break out of expected norms. Conflict helps them assert their individuality. Thrives in friendships and group activities. It is a moon sign that likes to be in the know.
♓︎Pisces: needs and it is super important that this moon sign has peaceful spaces so system can reset - think chill music and candles vibe. Very impressionable and absorbs other's energy easily without even knowing it which can cause them to struggle or be depressed. Can have an ethereal quality and should be encouraged to process emotions through the arts as they may not always be able to verbally process.
